This slideshow includes the Shepherds' Field outside Bethlehem where the angel told them of Jesus' birth. In Bethlehem, the highlight was the Church of the Nativity, seeing the grotto where Christ was born and the manger where Mary laid the newborn baby. The church is jointly administered by the Greek Orthodox, Roman Catholics and Armenian Church. The Roman Catholic church there is St. Catherine's. The (Roman Catholic) Franciscan Church of St. Catherine of Alexandria was built in 1882 on the ruins of the Crusader church and monastery belonging to the Augustinians. Under the church, there are caves below dedicated to the study and tomb of St. Jerome who translated the Bible from Hebrew into Latin.
