Morphing into its tallest shape, the split rhomboid dodecahedron monument at the Armenian Heritage Park on the Greenway, known as the Abstract Sculpture, was reconfigured this week for the 2021 season. Made out of steel and aluminum, the Abstract Sculpture changes its shape each year although last year was skipped due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The debut of this year’s sculpture is one of the 25 possible configurations and the ninth since the park was dedicated in May 2012.

The annual configuration of the Abstract Sculpture is symbolic of all immigrants who were pulled away from their country of origin and came to the United States, establishing themselves in new and different ways.

The sculpture itself comes out of a dodecahedron (12 sides) with each side in the shape of a rhombus (see model image). The Abstract Sculpture is reconfigured each year with a different combination of pieces.

A&A Industries oversees the annual reconfiguration, based on a Guide to the Annual Reconfiguration of the Abstract Sculpture with details, prepared by the Park’s architect/designer, Donald Tallalian. The Charles G. and Doreen Bilezikian Fund, an endowed fund of Armenian Heritage Park, supports related costs of the annual reconfiguration.
