2013-09 | 10th Annual Bocce Tournament for Taste of the North End

Reaching its 10th anniversary milestone this year, the annual "Taste of the North End" Bocce Tournament featured high level bocce play and an Italian-style barbeque on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Langone Park. The annual bocce event is organized by Donato Frattaroli of Lucia Ristorante and Chris Zizza of C&R Flooring. This year, due to the rain-soaked outdoor courts, the bocce tourney was moved inside the Steriti Rink. Despite the weather, bocce players indulged in a true Italian tradition while raising money for a good cause.

After an Italian cookout, the bocce teams took time out to honor Mayor Thomas M. Menino for his service to the community. On behalf of the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame, Mayor Menino was presented him with its "Man of the Year" award by Donato Frattaroli and Taste of the North End.

Founded by Lucia Ristorante's Donato Frattaroli, Taste of the North End raises funds for scholarships and charities in the North End community including co-sponsor North End Waterfront Health and the North End Athletic Association. Helping to organize this year's bocce tournament were Chris Zizza of C&R Flooring, Pam Modugno of NIASHF and Pam Donnaruma of the Post Gazette. Sponsors included Piantedosi, J. Pace & Son, Artu Rosticceria & Trattoria, Filippo Ristorante, Lucia Ristorante, Ducali Pizzeria & Bar, Arte Cucina, Don & Sons, Spadafora Slush, Twinbrook Insurance and C&R Flooring.
