Holy Sepulchre
Also called the Church of the Resurrection, this Christian Church in the walled Old City of Jerusalem, Christian Quarter is venerated as Golgotha, the HIll of Calvary, where Jesus was crucified and is said to contain the place where Jesus was buried (the Sepulchre).
This is the most important pilgrimage destination since at least the 4th century as the site of the resurrection of Jesus. Today, it also is shared by several Christian churches in complicated arrangements essentially unchanged for centuries. It is home to Roman Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Oriental Orthodoxy and the headquarters of the Greek Orthodox Church.
